We all know the feeling of walking into the terminal, unsure of what to expect. Will it be a quiet, breezy walk to the gate? Or will the check-in desks, coffee shops, and concourses be absolutely packed?
The volume of travellers affects every part of your journey, from finding a drop-off spot to grabbing a seat near your gate. To help you navigate this uncertainty, we are delighted to announce the launch of our newest feature: Airport Busyness.
Smart Insights, Better Planning
Our new Airport Busyness tool takes the guesswork out of your travel day. It provides a clear, hourly projection of how active the airport is likely to be, allowing you to gauge the atmosphere before you even leave your house. The feature categorises the airport’s status into four simple levels: Green: Not busy Yellow: A bit busy Orange: Busy Red: Very busy
How It Works
We don’t just guess; we look at the data. The feature analyses live flight information combined with historical flight patterns from the past two weeks.
By looking at the sheer volume of scheduled flights, we can accurately project passenger footfall for every hour of the day.
Interactive Details: Want to know exactly why the chart is red? simply tap on any hour bar (as shown in the image above). You will see the specific busyness projection and the average number of flights scheduled for that window (e.g., “190 flights on avg.”).
How This Helps You
Whether you are a frequent flyer or heading off on a family holiday, this data helps you in two key ways:
1. Ascertain the Best Time to Fly: If you have flexibility in your schedule, you can use these insights before you book. Check the trends to see which days or times are typically quieter, ensuring a more relaxed start to your trip.
2. Prepare Before You Arrive: Knowing what to expect allows you to adjust your mindset and your schedule.
- Is it “Very Busy”? You might want to allow extra time for traffic around the airport loop, finding a trolley, or navigating crowded corridors.
- 2. Is it “Not Busy”? You can breeze through and perhaps spend a little less time rushing.
Coming Soon to an Airport Near You
We are currently rolling this feature out to select airports and are working hard to expand our coverage. Keep an eye on the app as we add more locations in the coming weeks.
