LaGuardia’s TSA Wait Times: A 142-Minute Peak and a 4 am Rush Hour

June’s Wait Times: Beyond the Average

A simple average can be misleading. While the average TSA wait time at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) was just 4 minutes in June 2026, the reality for many travelers was quite different. Our data shows that lines frequently hit a typical daily peak of 46 minutes. The month’s longest wait was a staggering 142 minutes, highlighting the potential for significant delays during busy periods.

Despite these peaks, the performance was consistent with the previous month, showing no change from May 2026. Overall, 95% of the 8307 passengers we tracked waited for less than 15 minutes, but for those who fell outside this, the experience could be much longer.

A Tale of Two Terminals

Your experience in June likely depended heavily on your terminal. A clear difference emerged between LaGuardia’s two main terminals, with Terminal C seeing the most extreme waits.

  • Terminal C: Although it boasted a lower average wait of 3 minutes, it was also the location of the month’s extreme 142-minute peak. Travelers here faced a wider and more unpredictable range of outcomes.
  • Terminal B: This terminal had a higher average wait of 5 minutes, but its peak wait was significantly lower at 70 minutes, suggesting a more consistent, if slightly slower, experience.

The Busiest Times to Travel

Looking at the weekly patterns, Sunday was the busiest day with an average wait of 5 minutes, while Wednesday was the quietest, averaging just 3 minutes. The single most congested day of the entire month was 22 June, when the average wait climbed to 6 minutes.

The most surprising trend was the time of day. The busiest hour at LaGuardia security was not in the late morning or evening, but at 4 am, when the average wait spiked to 10 minutes. Lines remained elevated through the early morning rush, hitting 6 minutes at 6 am, and saw another peak at 12 pm, also with a 6-minute average. The quietest times were overnight, with waits of only 1 minute at 12 am.

Traveler Tip

Based on our June data, travelers looking for the quickest path through LaGuardia security should aim to fly on a Wednesday. To avoid the significant early morning rush, consider a flight in the mid-afternoon. The period between 2 pm and 4 pm consistently showed average waits of only 3 minutes, offering a much smoother start to your journey.
