Your Guide to Navigating Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)
Welcome to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)! As the largest international airport serving the Milan metropolitan area, it handles millions of passengers each year. This guide is designed to provide you with all the essential information you need for a seamless journey, whether you are arriving, departing, or transiting.
Know Your Terminal: T1 vs. T2
Milan Malpensa has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, located several kilometers apart. It is crucial to check your ticket to know which terminal your flight operates from.
Terminal 1 (T1): This is the larger and more modern terminal, serving a wide range of full-service and international airlines. The terminal is divided into a Schengen Area (Gates A) and a Non-Schengen Area (Gates B), making it straightforward to navigate for your international or domestic flight.
Terminal 2 (T2): This terminal is used almost exclusively by the low-cost carrier EasyJet. It is a smaller, more streamlined terminal designed for efficient departures and arrivals.
A free shuttle bus service connects the two terminals 24/7. The bus runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during late-night hours, ensuring you can always get to the correct terminal.
Breeze Through Security with Fast Track
To make your departure process quicker and more comfortable, Malpensa Airport offers a Fast Track service. This dedicated lane allows you to bypass the regular queues and get through security checks faster.
You can purchase your Fast Track pass online ahead of your trip for a discounted price of €9 (or €10 if you buy at the airport). This is a great way to save time and reduce stress, especially during peak travel periods. The Fast Track gates in Terminal 1 are located on the second floor in the Departures area. In Terminal 2, you can find the Fast Track entrance in the main Departures hall. The pass is valid 60 days from the selected date.
Travel from the Airport to Milan City Centre
Malpensa Airport is located approximately 50km from the center of Milan, but it is very well-connected by public transport and taxis.
Train (Malpensa Express): This is the fastest and most convenient way to reach the city. The Malpensa Express train offers direct services to two key central stations: Milano Centrale and Milano Cadorna. The journey to Cadorna takes about 40 minutes, while the trip to Centrale takes around 51 minutes. Trains depart from both terminals every 30 minutes.
Bus: Several bus companies, including Terravision, operate direct routes from both terminals to Milano Centrale station. The journey takes approximately 50-60 minutes, depending on traffic, and offers a cost-effective alternative to the train.
Taxi: Official taxis are available at the ranks outside the arrivals hall of both terminals. The journey to the city center has a fixed fare, so be sure to confirm the price with the driver before you start your trip. A typical taxi ride will take around 50 minutes.
Essential Airport Services
Malpensa Airport is equipped with a wide array of services and facilities to enhance your travel experience. You can stay connected with free Wi-Fi available throughout both terminals. For dining, you will find a great selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars, from quick bites to sit-down meals.
The airport also features an extensive shopping area, particularly in Terminal 1, with a host of Italian and international brands, duty-free shops, and souvenir stores. Other useful services include luggage storage facilities, currency exchange offices, ATMs, pharmacies, and VIP lounges for a more relaxing wait before your flight.
