Airport Security Guide for Miami International Airport
Navigating security screening efficiently can save you time and stress. Each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag plus a personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, laptop, or backpack. Be prepared for additional screening at the gate.
Only ticketed passengers are allowed beyond the checkpoints. If you need to accompany a ticketed passenger due to medical or other verifiable needs, check with your airline for assistance.
Electronic items, including laptops and cell phones, may undergo additional screening. Remove laptops from their cases for thorough x-ray examination.
Minimize the amount of metal objects you carry to expedite the screening process. Store items like keys, cell phones, and coins in your carry-on bag before passing through metal detectors.
Follow the Liquids Rule: carry-on containers must be 3.4 ounces or less, placed in a quart-sized bag. Water bottles are not allowed.
For expedited security screening, consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck® or CLEAR. TSA PreCheck allows you to use dedicated security lanes and enjoy a quicker screening process without removing shoes, belts, laptops, or liquids. CLEAR uses biometric identification to confirm your identity, allowing you to bypass the regular ID check and proceed directly to the physical screening. Both services significantly reduce wait times and provide a more convenient airport experience.
Terminal Levels at MIA
Upon arrival, head to Level 1 to retrieve your baggage. The baggage claim area is clearly marked and easily accessible.
For departures, proceed to Level 2. Here you’ll find check-in counters and ticketing services. Ensure you have your identification and travel documents ready for a smooth check-in process.
To move between terminals, utilize the moving walkways on Level 3. These walkways also connect the Central Terminal to the MIA Mover Station, facilitating easy access to the Rental Car Center.
