Airport Guide for Malaga Airport (AGP)

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is the essential gateway to Andalusia and the fourth busiest airport in Spain, handling over 24 million passengers annually. Located just 8 kilometers southwest of Málaga city and 5 kilometers north of Torremolinos, it serves as the primary hub for the entire Costa del Sol region. While the airport technically consists of three terminals, it operates functionally as a single, integrated complex. Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3) are connected and share a single airside area; passengers may check in at T2 or T3 depending on their airline, but all departures funnel through the centralised security checkpoint in T3. Terminal 1 is currently closed to the public.

Flights from Malaga Airport are running close to normal today, with an average delay of 4 minutes — typical for this time on Wednesdays.

This is the most common source of confusion. Ryanair and EasyJet check-in desks are located in Terminal 2 (T2). However, Málaga Airport operates as a single internal complex. After checking in your bags in T2, you must walk to Terminal 3 (T3) to pass through the centralised security checkpoint. Your flight may depart from gates in either T2 (Piers B/C) or T3 (Pier D), but all passengers enter the airside zone through T3.

Tip: If you are travelling with hand luggage only and have your boarding pass, you can go directly to security in T3.

Operationally, they function as one building. T2 is the older section (Pablo Ruiz Picasso Terminal) used primarily for budget airline check-in and non-Schengen boarding gates (Piers B and C). T3 is the newer facility housing the main security checkpoint, most legacy carrier check-ins (e.g., BA, Iberia), and the main commercial duty-free zone.

For Schengen (Domestic/EU) flights, 2 hours is sufficient. For Non-Schengen (UK, Ireland, Non-EU) flights, it is strongly recommended to arrive 3 hours prior to departure. The implementation of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has increased processing times for passport control, creating potential bottlenecks for UK travellers.

Access to the security queues can be found on the 1st floor of the terminal. Purchase a security fast track for quicker access here, valid for 7 days, with children under 5 admitted free. Priority access is open 24/7. Fast Track may be included as part of your airline’s loyalty scheme, consult your airline.

The most efficient method is the direct bus service operated by Avanza.

  • Location: The bus stop and ticket office are located in the forecourt immediately outside the T3 Arrivals hall.
  • Tickets: It is highly recommended to book online in advance (via the Avanza website) during summer and peak holidays, as buses frequently sell out. You can also buy tickets at the kiosk outside arrivals.
  • Duration: Approx. 45 minutes to Marbella and 75 minutes to Estepona.

The Cercanías (C1 Line) train station is located directly opposite the T3 Arrivals exit. It is accessed via an escalator/elevator in the public plaza.

Payment: You can use a contactless bank card to tap in and out at the turnstiles, avoiding the queues at ticket machines. The fare is approximately €1.80.

Destinations: Trains run north to Málaga Centro (approx. 12 mins) and south to Fuengirola (approx. 35 mins) every 20 minutes.

The most widely recognised meeting point for private pickups is The Tobacconist (Estanco). It is located outside the terminal on the ground floor, to the right of the arrivals exit, near the pedestrian crossing to the parking.

  • For Drivers: You can park in the Express Car Park (first 10-15 minutes are usually free) on the departures level or the P1 car park and walk to this spot.

Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide a modelled projection, combined with crowdsourced data.

Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times.
