Airport Guide for Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA)

Located in Yeadon, approximately 7 miles northwest of Leeds and 9 miles from Bradford, Leeds Bradford Airport is the largest airport in the Yorkshire region. Originally opened in 1931 as Yeadon Aerodrome, the site has a rich history, including a period during WWII when the adjacent Avro factory produced Lancaster bombers for the war effort.

Geographically, LBA is unique; it holds the title of the highest airport in England at an elevation of 681 feet (208 meters). This hilltop location offers spectacular views but also presents specific operational challenges during winter months.

Today, the airport serves over 4 million passengers annually (recording 4.24 million in 2024) and acts as a major base for airlines such as Jet2 and Ryanair. LBA is currently in a transitional phase, undergoing a £100 million terminal regeneration project (“LBA:REGEN”) aimed at modernising facilities and increasing capacity to 7 million passengers by 2030.

Yes, but not at the terminal front. You must search for and navigate to the “One Hour Free” zone located in the Mid Stay Car Park. From there, it is a 3-4 minute walk (approx. 250 meters) to the terminal building.

Warning: Do not confuse this with the “Pick Up & Drop Off Car Park”. If you enter, you will be charged £7.00 for the first 10 minutes.

Approach the airport slowly and strictly observe lane signage.

  • Avoid: Entering the “Short Stay” or “Premium” lanes if you only intend to drop off, as this can incur a charge just for driving through.
  • Avoid: Dropping passengers off in the “Long Stay” car park entrance; ANPR cameras monitor this, and fines can be substantial for just driving through.

Yes. Sentinel remains a popular off-site “park and ride” option and is frequently compared to the Official Long Stay. Users often find it price-competitive with a similar shuttle bus transfer time (approx. 2 minutes).

Yes. you can book through the official LBA Fast Track page. This service allows you to skip the security queue and go through a dedicated, faster lane.

There is no train station at the airport itself. The closest major rail hubs are Leeds Station and Bradford Interchange.

Insider Tip: Do not book a train to “Apperley Bridge” or “Horsforth” expecting a shuttle; it is much easier to take the train to Leeds Station and catch the Flyer A1 bus.

No. The “Flying Tiger” brand has been retired. The service is now branded as the Flyer.

  • Flyer A1: Leeds Station to Airport (runs every ~30 mins).
  • Flyer A2: Harrogate – Airport – Bradford. Flyer A3: Bradford – Shipley – Otley – Airport.

Only Arrow Cars (the official partner) have exclusive access to the terminal front forecourt. Uber drivers typically pick up from the One Hour Free / Mid Stay car park area, which requires a short walk. Always confirm the exact pickup point in your app upon landing.

Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide an estimate, and we communicate that it’s a best-guess only.

Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

Add a security or customs queue wait time: How was your airport security experience? Contribute to the community by inputting your wait time. This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times. 

For airport wait times, we currently support over 110 airports worldwide. Whether it be London Heathrow, Istanbul, or Miami – we have got you covered. More are added all the time.
