    A Guide to Houston George Bush International Airport (IAH)

    Located approximately 23 miles north of Downtown Houston, IAH serves as the city’s primary international gateway and a major hub for United Airlines. The airport spans five terminals (A, B, C, D, and E) connected by a unique dual-train system: the landside “Subway” and the airside “Skyway.” Currently, IAH is undergoing significant infrastructure changes, most notably the $2.5 billion Terminal B Transformation Project, which is scheduled to continue through late 2026. This guide addresses the most frequent questions regarding navigation, parking, and construction impacts during this transition

    The Terminal B Ticketing Lobby and Check-In area are closed for construction until late 2026. However, the Terminal B gates are still open and operating.

    • Departure: You must check in, drop your bags, and clear security at Terminal C. After clearing security, take the Skyway (the elevated train) from Terminal C to Terminal B to reach your gate (Gates B3-B31).
    • Arrival: If you land in Terminal B, you can exit normally or take the Skyway to other terminals for connections.
    • Time: Please allow an extra 20–30 minutes for this transfer process.

    Due to roadway construction congestion at Terminal B, it is highly recommended to use the Terminal C curbside (for United Mainline and Express) or Terminal A curbside. Avoid the Terminal B roadways if possible.

    The official ecopark (JFK Blvd) is generally the cheapest on-site option (~$9/day for uncovered). It is the only lot that accommodates electric vehicle (EV) charging in the economy tier. There is a 24/7 terminal shuttle bus service.

    No. IAH parking facilities are cashless and accept only credit/debit cards or mobile payments (Apple/Google Pay). If you only have cash, you must use the “Cash-to-Card” machines located in the Terminal A Ticketing Lobby (Level 2) before retrieving your car.

    The Metro 102 (Bush IAH Express) picks up on the Baggage Claim Level (South Side) of Terminal C.

    • Cost: $1.25 (you can pay using the Metro Q application).
    • Estimated travel time: 50-90 minutes.
    • Pick up and drop off: METRO Bus Stop on the baggage claim level, south side of Terminal C.

    There is also the Metro Bus 500, which travels to and from the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB) at a cost of $4.50 one-way. Pick up and drop off is at Terminal C, baggage claim level, West Curb next to C-104.

    Important: Drivers do not carry change. You must have exact cash or use the Metro Q mobile app. Large luggage racks are available inside the bus.

    Rideshare pickups are strictly designated at specific terminal doors on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level

    • Terminal A: South Side, Door A-115.
    • Terminal B: Currently redirected due to construction; use Terminal A or C.
    • Terminal C: South Side, Door C-105.
    • Terminal E: West Side, Door E-103.

    • Skyway (Elevated): This is Airside (Post-Security). Use this to change terminals without exiting security. It runs every 2 minutes and connects all terminals (A, B, C, D, E).
    • Subway (Underground): This is Landside (Pre-Security). Use this only if you need to go from the parking garages/hotel to a terminal before checking in. If you take this while on a layover, you will exit the secure zone and must go through TSA again. Note: The Subway is closed nightly from 12:30 AM to 3:30 AM.

    Yes, you can walk between Terminals B, C, D, and E while staying behind security. Terminal A is harder to reach on foot from the others; the Skyway is recommended.

    1. Arrive at Terminal D/E. Clear US Immigration.
    2. Pick up your checked bags (regardless of final destination).
    3. Clear US Customs. Drop bags at the “Connecting Flights” belt just after the exit.
    4. Reclear TSA security.

    Recommended Layover Time: 2.5 to 3 hours is advised due to varying customs wait times.

    Note: If you’re flights are purely domestic, the recommended minimum connection time is 90 minutes

    Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide a modelled projection, combined with crowdsourced data.

    Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

    Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

    Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

    Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

    Add a security or customs queue wait time: How was your airport security experience? Contribute to the community by inputting your wait time. This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. To add a wait time, simply click the “Add Your Time” button on the airports page and follow the instructions.

    Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

    We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

    There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times.
