Guide to Glasgow Airport (GLA)

Glasgow Airport is located approximately eight miles west of Glasgow city centre in Paisley. It is a 24-hour operation serving millions of passengers annually. The airport is situated directly off the M8 motorway (Junction 28), making it a key transport hub for the west of Scotland. Passengers should note that while the airport is often described as having two terminals, it functions as a single integrated facility for departures and arrivals.

Terminal 1 is the main building where all passengers pass through security and arrive.

Terminal 2 is a smaller, connected annex used exclusively for checking in with specific low-cost and charter airlines (such as Jet2 and TUI) before moving to Terminal 1 for boarding.

No. Although some UK airports have relaxed this rule, Glasgow Airport continues to strictly enforce the 100ml limit for all liquids, gels, and pastes as of 2026. All liquids must fit into a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag (max size 20cm x 20cm). If you bring liquids over 100ml, they will be confiscated at security.

Yes. Unlike airports with the newest CT scanners fully operational, you should prepare to remove all electronic devices (laptops, tablets) and your liquid bag from your carry-on luggage and place them in the trays provided.

It is recommended to arrive 3 hours before international flights and 2 hours before domestic flights. Security typically opens 4 hours before the first flight of the day.

The official Pick Up & Drop Off zone (located directly outside the terminal in Car Park 2) charges £6.00 for a stay of up to 15 minutes. If you stay longer than 15 minutes, the price increases by £1 per minute. Staying over 30 minutes incurs a £50 charge.

Yes. You can use the Long Stay Car Park for free for up to 1 hour. This car park is located a few minutes away from the terminal, but a free shuttle bus runs frequently between the car park and the terminal building. It is the best option if you need more time to say goodbye or if a flight is delayed.

No. Stopping on the approach roads or roundabouts is strictly prohibited and monitored by CCTV. Drivers stopping in unauthorized zones face fines. It is cheaper and safer to use the free hour in the Long Stay Car Park.

No, there is no train station at the airport itself. The nearest railway station is Paisley Gilmour Street, which is just over one mile away. You can catch the McGill’s 757 bus from the station to the terminal, or take a short taxi ride.

The Express 500 service runs 24/7 between the airport and the city centre. Key stops include St Vincent Street (near Central Station), George Square (near Queen Street Station), and Buchanan Bus Station. Tickets can be bought on the bus or online (approx. £11 single / £17.50 open return).

Uber drivers cannot pick up passengers directly at the arrivals curbside. You must go to the designated Pick-up Zone in the Car Park (usually Car Park 2). Follow the instructions in your app and the signs for “Pre-booked Taxis” or “Ride App” pick-up.

Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide a modelled projection, combined with crowdsourced data.

Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times. 

For airport wait times, we currently support over 140 airports worldwide. Whether it be London Heathrow, Istanbul, or Miami – we have got you covered. More are added all the time.
