    Your Guide to Dublin Airport (DUB)

    Dublin Airport is Ireland’s busiest international gateway, located approximately 10km north of Dublin city center. Operated by the daa, it serves over 36 million passengers annually and acts as a major transatlantic hub. The airport consists of two main terminals: Terminal 1, which primarily serves Ryanair and regional traffic. Terminal 2, the home of Aer Lingus and long-haul carriers. DUB is distinct as one of the few airports outside North America to offer US Preclearance, allowing passengers to clear US immigration before departure.

    While Dublin Airport rarely closes entirely, individual airlines may cancel flights due to high winds.

    • Check Status: Do not rely on the airport’s general status. Check your specific flight on the Dublin Airport App or your airline’s website.
    • Rights: If your flight is cancelled due to a storm, you are generally entitled to a refund or re-routing, but compensation (cash payouts) is often not applicable if the weather is deemed an “extraordinary circumstance”.

    • Availability: Both Terminals 1 and 2 during specific hours. This service is available for departing flights only and can be booked online.
    • Opening hours: Fast Track at Terminal 1 operates from 04:00 to 21:00, while at Terminal 2, it is available from 04:00 to 18:00. Book Fast Track here.
    • Price: Fast Track access is priced between €7.99 and €12.99, depending on the date and time of travel.

    Security at Dublin Airport operates from early morning until the last departing flight. Terminal 1 security opens at 03:00hrs and remains open until the last departing flight. Terminal 2 security opens at 03:30hrs and also remains open until the last departing flight.

    It is advised to arrive at your terminal 2 hours before your scheduled departure time for short-haul flights and 3 hours before long-haul flights.

    Terminal assignment is strictly by airline, not destination.

    • Terminal 1 (T1): The main hub for Ryanair, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air France, KLM, and Qatar Airways.
    • Terminal 2 (T2): The hub for Aer Lingus, Emirates, and all US carriers (United, Delta, American, JetBlue).
    • Walking Between Terminals: T1 and T2 are connected. You can walk between them in approximately 5–10 minutes via a covered walkway, both landside (before security) and airside (after security).

    Yes. There is an airside walkway connecting the terminals. You do not need to exit and go through security again. This is useful if you are flying from T2 but want to use the smoking area in T1 (see below).

    Yes, if you are flying directly to the USA. Dublin is one of the few airports with US Preclearance. You will clear US Immigration and Customs before you board. You land in the US as a “domestic” passenger, allowing you to skip immigration queues upon arrival.

    You must arrive 3 hours before departure. You have to clear Dublin security and US security/immigration.

    • The Process: Check-in (T2) → Dublin Security (Level 2) → Walk to US Preclearance (Ground Floor) → US Security → US Immigration.

    Dublin Airport has upgraded to new scanning technology that allows liquids and electronics to remain in your hand luggage.

    • What can stay in your hand luggage: Liquids, gels and electronics (e.g. laptops) can remain in your hand luggage.
    • New limits: You can bring up to 2 litres, and there are no limits on the number of liquids and gels you can pack.

    • Dublin Express: Uses the Port Tunnel, making it generally faster to the city center.
    • Aircoach (Route 700): Takes the surface streets (Drumcondra), which can be slower during rush hour, but offers 24-hour service and routes to South Dublin (Leopardstown/Sandyford).

    Uber in Dublin generally hails licensed taxis or limousines, not private cars. Drivers cannot pick up at the curb like a drop-off. You must proceed to the designated App Pickup zones in the car parks. Follow the instructions in the app carefully upon arrival.

    • Express Red: Closer (5-minute shuttle), more expensive (€18/day drive-up rate).
    • Holiday Blue: Further away (15-20 minute shuttle), cheaper (€15/day drive-up rate). Allow extra time if parking in Blue, as shuttles can fill up during holidays.

    Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide a modelled projection, combined with crowdsourced data.

    Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

    Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

    Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

    Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

    Add a security or customs queue wait time: How was your airport security experience? Contribute to the community by inputting your wait time. This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. To add a wait time, simply click the “Add Your Time” button on the airports page and follow the instructions.

    Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

    We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

    There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times. 

    For airport wait times, we currently support over 140 airports worldwide. Whether it be London Heathrow, Istanbul, or Miami – we have got you covered. More are added all the time.
