Brussels Airport, locally known as Zaventem, is Belgium’s busiest aviation hub located approximately 12 kilometers northeast of the capital. It serves as the primary home base for Brussels Airlines and a key connecting point for the Star Alliance network, particularly for passengers in transit between North America, Europe, and Africa. While the airport operates under a one-terminal concept, meaning all departures start from a single check-in hall—the airside area is divided into two distinct piers linked by a central building known as “The Connector”:

Pier A: primarily serves Schengen destinations (flights within the EU/open borders). It also contains a specific zone (Gates T) for select long-haul flights.

Pier B: serves Non-Schengen destinations (UK, USA, Asia), requiring passengers to pass through border control.

The Diabolo Fee (€5.40) is a mandatory surcharge for using the airport train station.

  • Regular Tickets: If you buy a standard point-to-point train ticket to the airport (e.g., from Brussels Central), the fee is usually already included in the price.
  • Rail Pass Holders: If you use a Eurail, Interrail, or Youth Multi Pass, the fee is NOT included. You must purchase a separate “Brussels Airport Supplement” at a vending machine or online to scan at the station gates.
  • Children: Kids under 12 traveling for free (Free4Kids) do not need to pay the supplement.

Uber drivers are not allowed to pick up at the curbside arrivals lane (which is reserved for official taxis). You must walk to Parking P1 Front (usually Level 1) to meet your ride share driver.

Note: An Uber typically costs €30–€45 to the city centre, while official taxis cost €45–€60.

It depends on your priority:

Bus 12 (Airport Line): An express bus to the European Quarter. It is faster but costs more (approx. €7.90).

Bus 272: A local bus with many stops. It is slower (can take 60+ minutes) but cheaper (approx. €2.50 by APP, €3.00 in person).

You have exactly 10 minutes of free time. This is strictly enforced by cameras. If you stay longer than 10 minutes, you will face an immediate fee, plus an additional charge per minute.

Warning: Drivers are prohibited from re-entering the drop-off zone within 1 hour of leaving.

Yes, and it varies by lot:

  • P1 and P3: Height clearance is 2.10 meters.
  • P2 Economy: Height clearance is lower at 1.90 meters. SUVs with roof boxes may not fit in P2.

The Connector is the above-ground building that links the check-in area to the gates. It houses the main security screening platform. You walk through it to reach both Pier A and Pier B.

  • Pier A: Primarily for Schengen flights (within the EU).
  • Pier B: For Non-Schengen flights (UK, USA, Africa, Asia). You must pass through passport control to reach Pier B.

Confusion Alert: T-Gates are located at the end of Pier A but serve Non-Schengen flights (often Brussels Airlines to Africa). They require a border check.

While some scanners are being upgraded to CT technology (allowing larger liquids), rules can be inconsistent or temporarily reverted by EU regulations. The safest advice is to strictly follow the 100ml rule.

Live data: For the majority of the airports we track we use live data from the airport. For the remaining airports we provide a modelled projection, combined with crowdsourced data.

Search: By airport name, IATA code, city, county, country or region. To save you time, we keep your last visited airports on the front page. If you can’t find an airport, contact us using the contact form and we will look to add it. 

Current average wait time: The airport’s latest average security, passport control or customs queue wait time. If the airport has multiple queues, we display the average of them. If you want a more granular view that includes wait times for individual queues, take a look at the terminal level wait times. We regularly update each airport’s data,  but make sure you click the “i” icon to check when the last update was made.

Terminal level wait times: The latest security or customs queue wait time for individual terminals. Click on the terminal to access more information at the terminal level. Please note that this data is not available for all airports. We are working to expand this functionality to as many airports as possible.

Historical wait times: The typical wait time on different days and times over the past 2 weeks. Click the filter at the top right of the graph to cycle through the days of the week.

Add a security or customs queue wait time: How was your airport security experience? Contribute to the community by inputting your wait time. This feature is only available for airports where Qsensor does not automatically track data. Our sources for wait time data vary and may include air travel data aggregators, federal agencies such as the TSA, CATSA CBP, or information from the airport and its affiliated service providers. For some airports, Qsensor utilises its proprietary queue modelling technology to project wait times. Additionally, we crowdsource data from passengers who have input their wait time using the “Add Your Time” button.

We regularly check queue times and flight delays for accuracy, however all times are estimates and waiting times and delays may not accurately reflect your experience. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance and follow the recommendations of the airlines and airports.

There are a wide array of ways that queue data is measured. Including but not limited to looking at how long a passenger takes to get from scanning their boarding pass to exiting the security or customs area. Auditing passengers on how long it took them to pass through security or customs as well as Qsensors’ proprietary system for user added wait times.
