When traveling to New Zealand, completing the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) is mandatory and free. You can submit the declaration online or via the NZTD app up to 24 hours before your journey. This applies even if you hold a New Zealand visa or NZeTA. The declaration collects vital Customs, Immigration, and Biosecurity information, helping to streamline your arrival and ensure safety at New Zealand’s borders.
Upon arrival, officials will review your declaration. Any declared items will be inspected by a Ministry for Primary Industries Officer. Your bags may be searched, X-rayed, or sniffed by detector dogs.
Immigration, Customs, and Biosecurity Guidelines
You must declare if you are carrying NZ$10,000 or more in cash or foreign currency equivalent. For accurate information on what you can bring into New Zealand, consult the New Zealand Customs Service.
Biosecurity New Zealand requires you to declare any fruit, vegetables, animal, or plant products. Clean your sports equipment before departure to aid in border processing. To protect against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), declare goods and equipment that could carry pests, and clean footwear if you’ve visited a farm overseas. A one-week stand-down is required before visiting a New Zealand farm if you’ve been in an FMD-affected country.
Shopping and Transit at Auckland Airport

For international transits, proceed to the International Transfer point, where security screening is required. Note that restrictions apply to liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs), including duty-free items from other airports.
